Gopal Pardeshi
When I was a kid I used to simply draw and sketch on my notebooks. My interest in drawing and painting increased as my friends and family started appreciating my work. I have used acrylic on canvas, oil on canvas, and watercolor on paper. At present, I am working on oil and acrylic colors.
I achieved my art degree from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune. I have worked as a background artist designing cartoon animations at the Digikor Studio, Pune, and also as a senior graphic designer at Maximize learning, Pune. Later I decided to give full dedication towards
the art that is my first love.
Earlier my paintings included exemplifying twigs, dry leaves, stones, trees, huts, and so on. Landscape painting is my forte but my obsession has always been door theme. Shaped out of interplay among hands, wood, and metal, “doors" open a new world that my work captures on canvas. The Marathwada culture remains characterized through the magnificence and impregnability of these doors, dating back to the 16th century. The saga of the Peshwa era is reflected from each line of these doors. The respective crack and scale of wood, rusting metal parts, which have withstood the onslaught of time and seasons, generate a texture of timelessness that is evident in my works. They also speak of time knocking on the doors of a culture.
“ My paintings try to breathe life into those objects of rural life that are usually taken for granted.”
Framing of the paintings: I deliberately choose a seasoned piece of wood for framing my paintings. The effect of sunlight, water, and insects helps produce a natural and rustic look. I think it also justifies the nature of elements I focus on in my paintings and gets perfectly with the theme.
